Bill Sugarman
With more than twenty years of business experience, Bill and his wife Barbara founded Benchmark Property Management, Inc. in 1987. The fledging company began with only five employees and four client associations (all of which remain clients to this day). In August of 1988 Bill Sugarman became one of the first five hundred Licensed Community Association Managers in Florida. Today, there are more than 35,000 licensees. Bill passed away in November, 2019 but left a thriving business to his family to carry on for decades to come!
Barbara Sugarman
While raising three daughters, Barbara also worked as the office manager of an investment firm in New York where she developed a solid foundation in business management. Upon moving to Florida she worked with husband Bill in laying the groundwork for the creation of Benchmark Property Management. Barbara oversees our staff of eight bookkeepers and stays in close contact with our many board members. She interacts daily with association accountants and banking institutions. Barbara places our client association’s financial needs at the very top of her daily agenda and spends a good part of her day interacting with attorneys and banks in processing the collection of delinquent accounts.
Dan Sugarman
Dan joined Benchmark in 1990 and has become one of the most accomplished and respected property management professionals in the tri-county area. As our Director of Field Operations, Dan supervises our staff of licensed community association managers and regularly conducts seminars for them and our clients. His twenty years of experience includes building maintenance, repair and renovation; landscaping and irrigation; pool pumping, filtration and heating systems: pest control; major projects such as roofing, paving and painting as well as fire alarm and sprinkler systems to mention just a few. Dan is also skilled in rules enforcement and serves as an advisor to dozens of board members whenever unusual operational issues arise – and they arise very frequently. We would like to clone Dan and have three or four more of him.
Sharon Sugarman Kasen
Sharon earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University in 2001. She is admitted to practice in both the Florida and Federal Bars. Sharon left her law practice to join us and help grow our family business. With the benefit of her legal background, it’s easy to understand why she is an invaluable asset to our company and to our clients in navigating through the many areas of management that are so strictly regulated by law. Sharon develops and implements our administrative procedures and maintains constant, personal contact with board members in order to assist, guide and educate them whenever important procedural matters are being considered. Sharon works closely with the many attorneys who represent our client associations as well as enjoying cordial working relationships with many of Florida’s regulatory agencies. She is well respected by many state and local officials and our clients always appreciate her participation in dealing with legal issues because, as many of our board members say: “Sharon speaks their language and that makes us comfortable and saves money.”
Lisa Sugarman Smith
With more than 18 years of experience as a licensed Real Estate Professional, Lisa has a deep understanding of the procedures, documents and the numerous parties who may participate in the sale or rental of homes or units in homeowner associations and condominiums. This experience provides her with the skills needed to oversee the application and approval process that is required by so many of our client associations. Because the application and approval process is always time sensitive, extremely detailed and often frustrating to sellers, buyers, real estate agents, title companies, lending institutions, etc. Lisa and her staff are dedicated to assisting the parties in facilitating the transaction while still adhering to the requirements of the associations governing documents. Her friendly approach to the public and her willingness to “go the extra mile” is what makes Lisa an invaluable member of our team. Lisa is also a licensed real estate agent with our sister company, Benchmark American Realty, Inc.
